The first of 15 weightlifting gold medals to be awarded at the 2012 London Olympics went to China's Wang Mingjuan Saturday.
Wang won the women's 48kg competition Saturday morning, lifting a combined 205 kg (about 452 pounds) between the clean and jerk and snatch to take her third straight gold medal in the event. In fact, Wang hasn't lost in international competition since 2002, but didn't participate in the Olympics in either 2004 or 2008.
Hiromi Miyake of Japan won the silver medal, lifting a combined 197 kg, and Ryang Chung Hwa of North Korea pulled out the bronze with a combined lift of 192 kg. Both women gave their nations their first medals of the 2012 Olympics with their performances.
Wang's gold is China's second of four on the day. She's and earned the nation's ninth gold in the last 16 Olympic weightlifting events since Beijing.
