American Kristin Armstrong won her second consecutive gold medal in the women's time trial on Wednesday.
American cyclist Kristin Armstrong has repeated as champion of the women's individual time trial, defending her gold medal from Beijing. At 38 years old, Armstrong is the oldest ever champion of a women's road cycling event at the Olympics. She finished the 29-kilometer course in 37:34.82, winning the gold by nearly 16 seconds.
Armstrong retired from cycling in 2009 to start a family, but made the decision to come back and defend her time trial title after having her son. She broke her collarbone in May and was danger of missing the Olympics, but recovered quickly to make it to the games.
Judith Arndt won the silver medal in a time of 37:50.29. Olga Zabelinskaya won her second medal of the Olympics, following up her bronze medal in the road race with another bronze in the time trial, finishing in 37:57.35. The winner of the road race and arguably the best female cyclist in the world, Marianne Vos of the Netherlands, was very disappointing and finished in 16th place.
