Serena Williams And Roger Federer Advance To 4th Round At Olympics

Serena Williams continued to power through the women’s singles bracket on Wednesday with a 6-1, 6-0 third-round win over Russia’s Vera Zvonareva.

Serena had 32 winners to only eight unforced errors, but her path looks to get more challenging in the next round as she’ll face the winner of a match between Dane Caroline Wozniacki and Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova. Also advancing in the women’s bracket on Wednesday was Belgium’s Kim Clijsters who topped Serb Ana Ivanovic 6-3, 6-4.

On the men’s side Roger Federer beat Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin 7-5, 6-3. Federer was struggling, tied 5-5 in the first set prior to a rain delay, but when play resumed he took control of the match and won fairly easily.

And one day after Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beat Milos Raonic in the longest match in Olympic history, the longest doubles match in Olympic history took place. The Brazilian team of Bruno Soares and Marcelo Melo beat Czechs Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek 1-6, 6-4, 24-22.
