China's Zhou Lulu won gold in the women's +75kg weightlifting division and set a world record in the process.
Downing Russia's Tatiana Kashirina, who took silver, Lulu executed a world record 187kg in the clean-and-jerk part of the competition. The lift also gave her the world record for the combined total across both clean-and-jerk and snatch with 333 kg.
The win gave China its 29th gold medal to date of the 2012 Summer Olympics. China leads the overall medal count heading into Sunday night 59-56 over the United States.
Americans Sarah Robles and Holley Mangold finished seventh and 10th, respectively. Though she didn't medal, Mangold had a surprise supporter in attendance: brother Nick Mangold, All-Pro center for the New York Jets.
Nick Mangold wasn't initially going to attend considering the Jets are in the middle of training camp, but did so at the urging of Jets coach Rex Ryan. From the Star-Ledger:
"God bless Rex, having his blessing is great," Mangold said. "But if everybody stares at you like, ‘You're leaving us?' that's ridiculous. It wouldn't have been right. Talking to the guys, they were real supportive of me coming."
