The South American quarterfinal of the 2012 Olympic men's basketball tournament ended with an experienced Argentina team topping a bigger Brazil squad, 82-77, for a berth in the semifinals.
Brazil put together a 12-4 run in the fourth quarter that cut the Argentina lead to one possession at 74-71 on a Leandro Barbosa three, but the Argentinians responded with an 8-0 run that put the game out of reach.
Five Argentina players finished in double figures, with Luis Scola leading the way with 17 points and Carlos Delfino and Manu Ginobili adding 16 points each. Brazil was led by its potent backcourt of Barbosa and Marcelinho Huertas, as each player scored 22 points.
The win likely sets up a rematch between Argentina and the United States in the semifinals.
