Vontae Davis says Colts spent all week preparing for Tom Brady, not Peyton Manning

Jared Wickerham

The Indianapolis Colts somehow managed a huge win over Peyton Manning and the Broncos despite one of the worst coaching mistakes in football history.

It was hard to be an NFL fan without hearing about Peyton Manning's return to Indianapolis. But at least one Colts player may not have known it was even happening.

Cornerback Vontae Davis, after playing a large role in knocking off the previously undefeated Broncos, admitted that he'd spent the entire week preparing for a completely different passing attack -- that of Tom Brady:

Wow, terrible job by Chuck Pagano and the Colts' staff -- impressive that the team still managed to get the win after completely mangling their pregame preparation. Davis, in his second year with the Colts, never played alongside Manning, so he wasn't as finely attuned to the return of the most notable player in franchise history as some of his longer-tenured teammates might have been.

Yes, we know it was just a mental slip. It's tough to avoid confusing hyper-good quarterbacks. Jim Irsay really should've used this defense earlier in the week.
