Logan Thomas' Virginia Tech career ended by Sun Bowl injury

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The three-year Virginia Tech starting quarterback reportedly suffered a stinger, which ended his last game with the Hokies.

Update:

Thomas played 46 games for Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas suffered a stinger during the second quarter of the Sun Bowl against UCLA and is on the sideline. The Hokies say Thomas is questionable to return.

Thomas to a big shot Bruins linebacker Jordan Zumwalt just after throwing a pass. He was clearly shaken up on the play, and after a visit from the training staff walked off the field under his own power. UCLA was penalized 15 yards for the hit, deemed to be a personal foul.

Thomas had struggled passing before leaving the game. He was 3-of-11 for 46 yards without a touchdown or interception. On the ground, he picked up 50 yards on three carries. Junior backup Mike Leal is on in relief for the Hokies, and through the majority of the third quarter has completed 8-of-11 passes for 81 yards without a TD or a pick.

In an attempt to keep the Bruins guessing, Thomas has worn his helmet and been in and out of huddles on the Virginia Tech sideline. With three minutes remaining in the third, UCLA holds a 14-10 lead.
