Today, Carla Suarez Navarro turned 25 years old. Things have been pretty good for the Spaniard recently: she is now ranked No. 18 in the world, the highest in her career. And she made it to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open, matching her best ever performance in a Grand Slam event.
There, she had to play Serena Williams, who did not get her a very nice present:
Serena Williams demolishes Carla Suarez Navarro 6-0 6-0 in 53 minutes to reach #USOpen semifinal. It was the unfortunate Spaniard's birthday— Guardian US sports (@GdnUSsports) September 4, 2013
In her defense, Serena said after the match she didn't learn it was Suarez Navarro's special day until right before the match, and by then the killdozer was already in motion.
