In what should come as a surprise to nobody, least of all the two people themselves, Jon Heyman essentially confirms that neither general manager Omar Minaya nor field manager Jerry Manuel will return to their current positions with the Mets in 2011.
The Mets will announce shortly after the season that general manager Omar Minaya and manager Jerry Manuel won't be returning in their roles, sources say. The announcements are likely to be made before the playoffs begin Wednesday.
The Mets have not yet begun interviewing potential GM candidates, and it's assumed that the GM will then be responsible for hiring a new manager, so one can expect these two positions to remain vacant for at least a little while.
It is possible that both Minaya and Manuel will remain with the organization in different roles, as each is well-liked.
