If you believe that momentum is important in baseball, then Carl Pavano may have just given some to his teammates. Andy Pettitte once again made quick work of the Twins in the fifth, and Pavano then put men on the corners with one out in the sixth. It was a golden opportunity for the Yankees to add to their narrow lead, especially with Robinson Cano and Nick Swisher due up, but Cano flew out harmlessly to left, and Swisher hit a broken-bat grounder to short. No runs would score, and though the Twins still trail by one, Pavano's half-inning may have breathed some life into the dugout.
Pavano has thrown just 75 pitches through six frames.
