Rangers Vs. Rays, ALDS Game 3: Colby Lewis Survives Another Scare, Preserves Lead

Stay connected with SB Nation

The Rays keep trying. The difference between this game and the two that preceded it is that the Rays haven't let the Rangers play add-on this afternoon. Rather, it's the Rays who continue to apply pressure, and Colby Lewis is managing to escape by the skin of his teeth. In the fourth, Lewis got Carlos Pena to fly out to the track with two on. Here in the fifth, Lewis walked consecutive batters and then fell behind Carl Crawford before striking him out swinging on a high fastball.

Two straight innings and two straight jams for Lewis, but he's escaped both of them, and it's still 1-0 Texas at the halfway point. Derek Holland started warming up in the Ranger pen in the fifth, as Lewis' pitch count now stands at 79.

It's now absolutely critical for the Rays that Matt Garza is able to throw an easy inning.
