Yankees Vs. Twins, ALDS Game 3: Marcus Thames Home Run Blows Game Open

And Game 3 has turned into a nightmare for the Twins. Phil Hughes has faced the minimum 12 batters through four shutout innings, and in the bottom of the fourth, Marcus Thames was able to double the Yankees' lead to 4-0.

Robinson Cano led off against Brian Duensing with an infield single. The right-handed Thames then took a first-pitch outside sinker deep to right-center for a two-run homer, and there's an air of confidence and certainty inside the Stadium. It definitely feels like a sweep is inevitable.

Two batters after Thames, Duensing issued a one-out walk to Curtis Granderson, provoking Ron Gardenhire to come out and replace him with Matt Guerrier. Duensing's night:

3.1 innings
8 baserunners
1 walk
1 strikeout
58 pitches
