We already showed you the 2010 AL Silver Slugger Award winners. Now we move on to the NL, where a certain Nationals player has something to cheer about after missing out on a Gold Glove. Again, shown in parentheses is the number of Silver Sluggers each player has won in his career.
P: Yovani Gallardo (1)
C: Brian McCann (4)
1B: Albert Pujols (4)
2B: Dan Uggla (1)
SS: Troy Tulowitzki (1)
3B: Ryan Zimmerman (2)
OF: Matt Holliday (4)
OF: Carlos Gonzalez (1)
OF: Ryan Braun (3)
Yes, Zimmerman takes home a Silver Slugger after leading all NL third basemen in OBP and slugging percentage. His closest competitors were Scott Rolen and David Wright, but neither did enough to state a strong case.
Gonzalez, Tulowitzki, Uggla, and Gallardo all won for the first time in their lives, which is something of a thrill. Tulowitzki blew the competition away, while Uggla held a narrow lead, Gonzalez finished with the best OPS among all NL outfielders, and Gallardo batted .254 with four home runs. Dan Haren finished with a higher OPS, but Gallardo had the power.
The remainder looks fine. Jayson Werth might've had an argument in the outfield, but not a convincing one. Buster Posey didn't play enough to win at catcher. And while Albert Pujols finished behind Joey Votto, Votto played in a more hitter-friendly park, inflating his numbers.
Four of 2010's NL winners also won in 2009.
