Bartolo Colon Signed By Yankees To Minor-League Contract, According To Report

On Wednesday, the Yankees have reportedly signed former Cy Young Award winner Bartolo Colon. The right-handed pitcher will start in the minor leagues and have a shot at making the Yankees' roster this Spring. From the New York Post's Joel Sherman:

sign Bartolo Colon to minor contract with invite to spring training. Gets $900,000 if makes majors

Colon was playing for bench coach Tony Pena in DR and Pena, plus Yank scouts liked what they saw enough to take low-$ risk

Should he make the major-league roster, Colon will join CC Sabathia as the second pitcher in the Bronx with a Cy Young Award on his resume. He's fallen a long way from that 21-win 2005 season, however. He spent the next few years battling injuries, and hasn't appeared in the majors since a stint with the White Sox in 2009.

Colon has struggled with weight issues, and he'll be 38 in May. Even if the Yankees' scouts do see something in him, it's difficult to see this move as much more than a gamble.
