The Orioles have been concerned about new starter Justin Duchscherer's health. He's experienced a few setbacks with his hip already in camp, including one on Sunday when he was scratched from an appearance with discomfort.
The Orioles decided to send Duchscherer for an MRA exam, which is basically a more complicated MRI. The exam took place on Monday afternoon, and Roch Kubatko has our results. According to Kubatko, the exam showed "nothing new" going on with Duchscherer's hip, which means there isn't any major damage.
Duchscherer's complained of left hip stiffness, similar to the sensation he felt before he had to undergo surgery. The current plan is to shut him down for another couple days and then go from there, building his arm back up and handling him with care. Duchscherer comes with obvious upside, as he's a talented pitcher, but he has such an alarming and consistent injury history that the team will want to take every precaution. And even that may not end up being enough.
