Onetime Prospect Andy LaRoche Vying For Job With A's

Still a couple of part-time jobs available in Oakland, including a bullpen slot and ... well, here's the Palo Alto Daily News:

The other job still in doubt is backup infielder, where either nonroster free-agent signee Andy LaRoche or Eric Sogard will get the nod. LaRoche hit .333 this spring with a club-leading four homers and played all four infield positions.

I have to admit I've never heard of Eric Sogard. LaRoche, of course, has been one of my darlings for a while, because of his superior performance in Triple-A while a Dodger farmhand. That was a while ago, though. In 1228 major-league plate appearances, LaRoche has been absolutely dreadful: .224/.303/.338. I would love to see him back in the majors, and doing well. But I worry that he's just not the same player, physically, that he was.
