Rays' Johnny Damon Angling To Keep Streak Alive

Last season with the Tigers, Johnny Damon ran his streak of 140-game seasons to 15. And as Roger Mooney writes in the Tampa Tribune, Damon doesn't want to stop there:

"I plan to keep doing that," said Damon, who signed with the Tampa Bay Rays in the offseason.

If he does, Damon will join Hank Aaron, Brooks Robinson and Pete Rose, who each played at least 140 games for 16 straight years. Right now, Damon and Willie Mays are the only members of the 15/140 club.

It's an impressive streak, for sure. I'm just not at all sure Joe Maddon should keep it going, considering that Damon is a) not a good left fielder, and b) not a particularly good hitter. And also considering that Maddon has a bunch of players who can play anywhere, and that Maddon seems particularly adept at getting the most from his versatile roster. Is getting Damon into 140 games really the best use of that roster? I think probably not.
