Johan Santana Pitches Two Scoreless Innings

It's hard to read too much into anything related to spring-training results, but here goes. Johan Santana:

  • pitched two innings
  • did not allow a run
  • walked a batter
  • did not strike out a batter

You can focus on the scoreless part, or you can focus on the part where he wasn't missing any bats. If I can suggest one of them, though, it would be the "two innings" part. It's just nice to see him out there for the first time in over a year.

As for Santana's velocity, according to one observer it was below what it was before the injury, but not horrifically so:

I don't know who that person is, but Ted Berg follows him, and Ted's cool. You heard it from a guy who heard it from a guy who Internet-knows a guy who probably knows what's up: Johan Santana's velocity is in the upper 80s. Unless it isn't. But the important thing is that Santana is on the mound again.
