Tigers vs. Athletics, 2013 ALDS Game 5: Time, TV schedule, starting pitchers and more

Thearon W. Henderson

If the sequel of Justin Verlander vs. Sonny Gray is as good as Part 1, TBS will be required viewing on Thursday night.

Justin Verlander and Sonny Gray will be on the hill on Thursday in a Game 2 rematch when the Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics battle for a spot in the American League Championship Series against the Boston Red Sox.

Verlander struck out 11 batters in seven scoreless innings in the Tigers' 1-0 loss on Oct. 5 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland. The A's rookie hurler went toe-to-toe with the six-time All-Star, tossing eight shutout innings and notching nine punch-outs.

That game was the polar opposite of Game 4, which saw the two teams combine for 14 runs and 21 hits. The Tigers pulled away late with five runs in their final two innings, a stark contrast from one stretch of 20 consecutive frames without scoring, spanning Games 1 through 3.

Coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET on TBS. Don Orsillo, Buck Martinez and Dennis Eckersley will be in the broadcast booth.
