The Marlins have indicated that they would like to keep Stanton and build around him, but that could change with new general manager Dan Jennings in charge. The team is reluctant to move Stanton inside their division, according to Cafardo.
Philadelphia seems like an unlikely destination for Stanton to eventually land: the Phillies do not have as strong a farm system as other teams interested in the outfielder. The Texas Rangers apparently called the Marlins front office "every week," to inquire about Stanton, and still have one of the top ranked farm systems in the game despite recent promotions and trades.
Stanton will be eligible for arbitration for the first time this season, and will likely earn around $7 million. The two sides are not expected to reach a long-term contract before arbitration.
