Dodgers sticking with Ricky Nolasco for NLCS Game 4 start

USA TODAY Sports

It was rumored that Zack Greinke might start on short rest Tuesday, but it's Nolasco getting the nod.

It's official: the Los Angeles Dodgers will send right-hander Ricky Nolasco to the hill for Game 4 Tuesday night, reports Bill Shaikin of the LA Times.

It was speculated that Zack Greinke might step in and pitch on short rest with the Dodgers trailing 2-1 in the series, but Don Mattingly has opted to stick with his original plan and give Nolasco his first start of this (or any) postseason.

The 30-year-old right-hander was slated to start Game 4 of the division series against the Braves, but on that occasion was pushed aside in favor of Clayton Kershaw. I suppose it's still possible that the Dodgers switch pitchers at game time, but it would come as a big surprise to at least one player:

Nolasco has pitched well for the Dodgers since arriving from Miami in July, posting a 3.52 earned-run average in 87 innings over 15 starts. He hasn't appeared in a game since Sept. 29, however, so he may have some rust to work off in the early innings on Tuesday (if you believe in that sort of thing).

Greinke, who held the Cardinals to just two runs while fanning 10 in eight innings on Friday, will likely start Game 5 for the Dodgers on Wednesday.
