Tigers vs. Red Sox ALCS Game 3 score update: Detroit, Boston scoreless thru 2

Mike Ehrmann

Boston's struggle to do much of anything against Detroit's starting pitchers has continued early in Game 3.

The trend of dominant starting pitching from the Tigers is alive and well early on in Game 3, but Red Sox right-hander John Lackey is keeping in step so far. The two squads are scoreless through two.

The pitching has been so "lights out" that the game was briefly delayed after the top-half of the second when the power in the stadium literally went out, but things are back to normal now.

Justin Verlander has held the Red Sox hitless through the first two frames, the only blemish on his line coming in the form of a leadoff walk to Big Papi in the second inning. The big zero in the hit column means Boston still has just two hits off of Detroit starters in 15 innings this series -- along with an eye-popping 28 strikeouts.

Jonny Gomes almost went Carlton Fisk on Verlander with two outs in the second, but the ball landed just to the wrong side of the left field fair pole. Gomes eventually struck out to end the frame.

Red Sox right-hander John Lackey ran into a little bit of trouble in the first when he surrendered singles to Torii Hunter and Prince Fielder, but but got a harmless fly ball from Victor Martinez to end the inning. Lackey settled in (once he got out there) in the second, retiring the side in order on a flyout and two Ks.
