Miguel Cabrera can't run, but he can still hit. Miggy's RBI -single put the Tigers on the board in the fifth and Brayan Pena helped Detroit pull with in two in the sixth.

Miguel Cabrera put the Tigers on the board in the fifth inning with a long RBI single off Red Sox starter Jon Lester and replacement catcher Brayan Pena delivered another RBI single in the sixth to cut Boston's lead to 4-2 in Game 5 of the ALCS.

Austin Jackson led off the fifth inning with a single off Lester and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Jose Iglesias. After Torii Hunter popped out, Cabrera battled Lester to a 3-2 count before connecting with a 93 mph fastball on the seventh pitch, driving it deep to left-center to score Jackson.

Lester dealt a lead-off walk to Victor Martinez to start the sixth. After a one-out single to Omar Infante, Lester was replaced by righty reliever Junichi Tazawa. Pena, who came into the game after starting catcher Alex Avila was injured in a collision, took Tazawa's first pitch to left field to drive in Martinez. Lester ends the night having allowed two runs on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez allowed back-to-back singles to David Ortiz and Mike Napoli in the fifth with two outs, but managed to escape without allowing any more damage thanks to a ground out from Jonny Gomes. He bounced back in the sixth inning with a one-two-three frame, including two swinging strikeouts. Sanchez has allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits with no walks over six innings.
