The Giants have attempted to start conversations with Lincecum about signing a contract extension before free agency begins, but the pitcher wants to gauge the level of interest from other ballclubs. San Franciscio already re-signed one of their potential free agents, inking Hunter Pence to a five-year, $90 million deal.
The team is expected to extend Lincecum a qualifying offer if they are unable to re-sign him. That would give the Giants draft pick compensation if he signs elsewhere.
The right-hander went 10-14 with a 4.37 ERA over 32 in 2013 starts for the Giants. Lincecum has struggled the past two seasons after posting sub-3.00 ERA's in 2008, 2009 and 2011. He won back-to-back Cy Young Awards in '08 and '09 and was a member of the Giants 2010 and 2012 World Series teams.
