Tim Lincecum to test free agent market

Lincecum is not expected to re-sign with the Giants without listening to other offers.

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Tim Lincecum will test the free agent market this offseason, reports Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area.

The Giants have attempted to start conversations with Lincecum about signing a contract extension before free agency begins, but the pitcher wants to gauge the level of interest from other ballclubs. San Franciscio already re-signed one of their potential free agents, inking Hunter Pence to a five-year, $90 million deal.

The team is expected to extend Lincecum a qualifying offer if they are unable to re-sign him. That would give the Giants draft pick compensation if he signs elsewhere.

The right-hander went 10-14  with a 4.37 ERA over 32 in 2013 starts for the Giants. Lincecum has struggled the past two seasons after posting sub-3.00 ERA's in 2008, 2009 and 2011. He won back-to-back Cy Young Awards in '08 and '09 and was a member of the Giants 2010 and 2012 World Series teams.
