Alcohol abuse!

Things aren't going well for the Cleveland Indians, who trail the Tampa Bay Rays by three runs late in the American League Wild Card game.

What's the best way to take away the pain? Why, beer, of course! That's right, drink up. Wait ... what are you doing? Don't ... no ... don't do that! No!

Well, that was a waste of upwards of $10. Especially because you threw it at David DeJesus. What did he ever do to anyone?

Chisenhall makes terrific grab

Things have been going right for Evan Longoria during the Rays' two play-in games, but he hit a patch of bad luck in the top of the eighth inning when Indians third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall made a terrific play to save a run.

Could that be the kickstarter for the Indians? We shall see. It's worth noting that another third baseman made a great play on Monday night. It was Adrian Beltre, of the losing Rangers.

Price suffers gum mishap

Some people bite their nails during nervous moments. Others chew on a mouthful of sunflower seeds. Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price's preferred method of stress relief is blowing bubbles -- rather poorly, I might add:

In fairness to Price, the bubble that's about to burst in the other dugout is a much bigger deal.

Jennings hits 2-run double

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings gave his team a 3-0 lead over the Cleveland Indians in the American League Wild Card game with a two-out, two-run double in the top of the fourth inning.

Indians starter Danny Salazar, who baffled the Rays for most of the first three innings on Wednesday, got into trouble by allowing back-to-back one-out singles to James Loney and Evan Longoria. After retiring Ben Zobrist for the second out, Salazar got too much of the plate with a 1-0 fastball and Jennings lined it down the left field line. Longoria scored all the way from first on the play.

Jennings is no stranger to playoff success. The 26-year-old native of Alabama entered the game with a .294/.400/.706 line in 20 career postseason plate appearances.

Young homers off of Salazar

Tampa Bay Rays designated hitter Delmon Young got the scoring started in the third inning of the 2013 AL Wild Card game with a moonshot off of Cleveland Indians starter Danny Salazar.

Young wasted no time, jumping all over a 95-MPH first-pitch fastball and crushing it about halfway up the left field bleachers at Progressive Field.

The solo shot was Young's ninth career postseason home run, all of which have come in the last three years. Young moved into a 10th-place tie with Lance Berkman among active players in postseason homers.

Salazar makes Loney look foolish

It doesn't get a whole lot more dominant than Cleveland Indians starter Danny Salazar in the first inning against the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL Wild Card game on Wednesday.

David DeJesus hit the ball fairly well in lining out for the first out of the inning, but Salazar came back from down 2-0 to strike out Wil Myers on five pitches for out No. 2. The rookie hurler saved his best work for James Loney, who went down on three pitches, including a 100-MPH fastball for strike three.

Loneyowned_medium

Loney is no slouch; the 29-year-old first baseman hit .351/.404/.486 on the road this season.
