Jonny Gomes robs Matt Adams of a hit with diving grab

Everything is going right for the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Jonny Gomes isn't a great defensive outfielder. He's had only one season in which he didn't end up in the negatives from advanced fielding metrics, and he doesn't really pass the eye test, either.

However, strange things often happen in the postseason, and this terrific catch by Gomes on a liner off the bat of Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams in the fifth inning of Game 1 of the World Series was no exception:

Just to make sure the world remains balanced, Gomes made an error later in the inning. Fortunately for the Red Sox, the miscue wasn't costly, and they still hold a 5-0 lead entering the bottom of the fifth.
