Matt Carpenter makes diving stab at 2B to rob Daniel Nava

Dilip Vishwanat

Carpenter keeps Nava off the bases with an impressive play.

It seems hard to believe that Matt Carpenter only started two games at second base for the St. Louis Cardinals before the season, spending most of his time at the corner infield and outfield positions. He has turned into an impressive second baseman, both on offense and defense.

Carpenter made an impressive play to lead off the second inning, robbing Daniel Nava of a hit with an diving stop up the middle.

The second baseman also hit a single in the bottom of the first, scoring a run on a Matt Holliday single. The Cardinals enter the top of the third leading 2-0.
