Jacoby Ellsbury error leads to first run of Game 4

Jared Wickerham

Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz is working on fumes, so his margin for error is small. Jacoby Ellsbury might have missed the memo.

Boston Red Sox center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury failed to field a ground-ball base hit off the bat of Matt Carpenter with one out in the third inning, enabling the St. Louis Cardinals second baseman to take an extra base on what would have been a single.

Carpenter came around to score on Carlos Beltran's hit in the next at-bat, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead against Clay Buchholz and the Red Sox. Beltran is now 8-for-10 with runners in scoring position this postseason.
