Joe Girardi has not informed Yankees of his decision

Joy R. Absalon-USA TODAY Sports

The Yankees offered Girardi a three-year contract extension Friday.

Joe Girardi has not informed the New York Yankees whether he will accept their contract offer to return as the team's manager, reports Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork.com.

The Yankees offered Girardi a three-year contract worth between $12-15 million dollars on Friday, which left Girardi the weekend to mull over his decision.

Girardi and the Yankees have both expressed interest in a quick resolution to the situation, so a decision is expected in the coming days.

Girardi does have a number of options if he chooses to not return. The Chicago Cubs and the Washington Nationals have both requested interviews, but the Yankees have declined their requests. The Yankees, who have Girardi under contract through Oct. 31, may relax their position if they are convinced that he does not want to return, according to Marchand.

The Cubs are serious in their pursuit of Girardi, and are "willing to top whatever offer" the Yankees give the manager, writes Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune. That could mean paying Girardi more than $5 million per season, which would make him the highest-paid manager in MLB.

FOX is also replacing Tim McCarver in the announcing booth, and would consider Girardi a candidate for the position. Girardi has worked in television in the past, and could choose to spend more time with his family and return to baseball at a later time.
