Amaro did not tell Zolecki any specific names. The beat writer did note that the club is looking for a corner outfielder, and suggests Nelson Cruz, Carlos Beltran and Michael Morse as possible targets.
The Phillies are looking to spread money around, attempting to fill multiple holes on the team, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. That likely takes them out of the running for high-priced outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury and Shin-Soo Choo.
Re-signing free agent catcher Carlos Ruiz remains a top priority, but Amaro indicated that the team will not wait on Ruiz, telling Zolecki:
"Well, we're fortunate now that [the free-agent market has] kind of opened up. There are several candidates that could be our catcher next year. We'll see what happens. I mean, we're in the open season."
The Colorado Rockies have also expressed interest in the veteran catcher. Brian McCann, Jarrod Saltalamacchia and A.J. Pierzynski are also free agents who started at catcher for their respective teams last season.
Philadelphia is coming off a disappointing 73-89 campaign, missing the postseason for a second straight year.
