The deal, pending a physical, will bring the right-hander to Boston to help shore up the bullpen.

Edward Mujica has agreed to sign with the Red Sox for $9.5 million over two years, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports. The deal is pending a physical at this point.

The 29-year-old journeyman reliever spent the last season-and-a-half with the St. Louis Cardinals following stints in Miami, San Diego and Cleveland. He pitched particularly well for the Cardinals in 2013, tallying 37 saves and earning a trip to the All-Star Game. Despite his successes, he posted an ERA of 11.05 in September and blew two saves. His ineffectiveness was reportedly due to a groin injury. He was replaced by Trevor Rosenthal as the team's closer during their failed campaign for the World Series title.

Mujica joins a Red Sox bullpen that is staffed by the likes of Koji Uehara, Junichi Tazawa and Craig Breslow. The $9.5 million is evidence that the groin injury is likely no longer an issue for Mujica. The bullpen is one of the few question marks for the World Champs this offseason, so the addition of the normally steady and healthy Mujica (he has averaged 74 innings a season since 2009) should help to address that issue.
