UPDATE: The status of Game 1, at minimum, is in serious question due to events in Boston. See the full story here: Status of Red Sox-Royals in question with Boston in lock down.

The Red Sox are on a roll right now, having won their last six games, and the Royals were able to cool down the titan Atlanta Braves, if only for one day. These two teams have gotten off to surprising starts in 2013, but which can sustain running into another hot team the best?

Clay Buchholz flirted with a no-no last time out, while James Shields was a tough luck loser in a complete game two hitter. There's your match-up to watch this weekend, as both pitchers are capable of pitching a gem. The Red Sox rank in the top 10 of MLB at scoring runs, so Royals pitchers will need to find a way to contain that if they hope to come out on top.

This series might not feature games with as good a pitching matchup as some of the others, but it is the most complete overall in terms of talent. Halladay has another shot to ease concerns about his decline against a far better team than the Marlins, while Lee and Kendrick have to be hoping they get some run support this time around. They both pitched brilliantly against the Reds, but they had no wins to show for it.

Behind Adam Wainwright and Carlos Beltran, the Cardinals took the first game of the series last night, their eighth victory in eleven games. Their 5.6 runs per game and 3.8 runs allowed per game each rank third in the NL. As A.J. Burnett and the Bucs' bullpen demonstrated on Wednesday in a 5-0 one-hitter, though, these Cardinals can be handled.
