Taking a look at some of the latest injury news around MLB.

A few key position players are struggling with some lingering injuries, while one team received some good news regarding an injured starting pitcher. Let's take a look at some of the latest injury news:

Bryce Harper aggravates knee, out of lineup on Monday

Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper aggravated his left knee injury while sliding headfirst into second base against the Philadelphia Phillies. The injury worsened as the game progressed; Harper later slid into third base and fouled a ball of his knee. Harper is not in the Nationals lineup on Monday against the Baltimore Orioles, Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post is reporting.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson eventually removed Harper in the bottom of the seventh inning. Johnson said that Harper may miss a few games recuperating from the injury, while the outfielder admitted the injury may linger for the rest of the season. Washington Times reporter Amanda Comak tweets that Nationals doctor Wiemi Douoguih has confirmed that Harper has inflammation of a bursa sac in his left knee, and the injury should improve with rest.

Indians place Perez on DL

The Cleveland Indians placed closer Chris Perez on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder soreness. Perez had to leave Sunday's game against the Boston Red Sox in the ninth inning because of the injury.

Perez has six saves on the season with a 4.32 ERA, but helped turn a 5-2 lead ninth inning lead against the Red Sox into a 6-5 loss.

There is no word on who will replace Perez in the closer's role for the Indians. Joe Smith and Cody Allen seem like the leading candidates, since Vinnie Pestano has battled a sore right elbow and decreased velocity since returning from the disabled list.

Cleveland recalled Nick Hagadone to replace Perez on the roster. This is Hagadone's third stint with the Indians; the southpaw has allowed nine runs in 10 innings in 13 appearances, striking out 12 while issuing 10 walks.

Beltran sits with shoulder soreness

The St. Louis Cardinals sat outfielder Carlos Beltran on Sunday due to left shoulder soreness. Beltran's status is considered day-to-day.

Beltran felt discomfort in his shoulder midway through Saturday's game against the Dodgers, which prompted Cardinals manager Mike Matheny to lift Beltran in the seventh inning for Shane Robinson. Matheny said that Beltran would "possibly" be ready to return for the team's series on Monday against the Kansas City Royals.

The outfielder has swung the bat well, hitting .294/.333/.500 in 180 plate appearances this season. Beltran leads the team with 10 HR's and 29 RBI's.

Buccholz to miss start on Monday

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Clay Buchholz will skip his start on Monday after experiencing some irritation in his AC joint. Alfredo Aceves will receive the spot start in place of Buchholz.

Buchholz told the media on Sunday that he felt something off in his joint the day after the Red Sox returned from Chicago. The starter also said that missing the start is mostly a precautionary measure, since it is early in the season.

Aceves will receive another chance to start after struggling earlier in the season in the rotation. Boston demoted Aceves to the minors in April, and recalled the right-handed pitcher on Friday.

Weaver to return on Wednesday

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver will return from the disabled list on Wednesday and start against the Dodgers.

Weavear has been on the disabled list with a fractured elbow since April 8. The started did not throw in a minor-league rehab assignment, but tossed 5.2 innings in an extended spring training game.
