Mark Teixeira was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with right wrist inflammation, the team announced Tuesday. He re-injured the wrist over the weekend and reportedly told hitting coach Kevin Long he couldn't swing the bat, MLB.com reports.first baseman
The injury occurred to the same wrist that caused him to miss the first 53 games of the season, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters he does not expect Teixeira to miss any time beyond the scheduled DL stint, according to the MLB.com report.
The reported cause of the injury was some extra hitting drills he was doing with Long. Teixeira mentioned that he thinks he may have overdone it, and that he will have to let the injury fully heal before he returns to the lineup.
The team will need the health of its corner infielders, as third baseman Alex Rodriguez still has no timetable for his return.
Teixeira is batting .151 with three home runs, both of which are well-below his standards at the plate.
The Yankees are currently 38-31, putting them in third place in the American League East.
