Nolan Ryan not worried about losing Nelson Cruz

For one reason or another, Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan isn't worried about losing Nelson Cruz to a Biogenesis-related suspension any time soon.

Texas Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan says he's not worried about right fielder Nelson Cruz missing playing time in the wake of Cruz's reported involvement in the Biogenesis investigation, according to's Todd Willis.

Cruz's name was linked to the ongoing investigation in a report on ESPN's "Outside the Lines." Any suspension for performance-enhancing drugs would penalize a would-be first-time offender (like Cruz) 50 games, but Ryan says that he is not concerned his right fielder will miss time in the wake of the scandal.

"I don't know that there's a time frame that they're dealing with," Ryan said. "I know that they're in a fact-finding mode right now, so we'll just have to wait and see how that plays out. But do I worry about losing Nellie here shortly? No, I don't. I really think he'll be with us and we'll just have to see where that goes."

Cruz was one of about 20 players that "Outside the Lines" linked to the scandal. The 32-year-old has 19 home runs and is batting .271/.331/.524 for the first-place Rangers this season. He'll enter his first free agency period next year.
