Roberts, 35, has played in just three games this season due to a hamstring injury. The injury required surgery and Roberts has been on the disabled list since early April. Baltimore had Roberts removed from a minor league rehab game on Friday, but that was merely a precautionary measure due to rain.
Roberts is expected to immediately rejoin the starting lineup upon his return. He started the season hot, with five hits in 12 at-bats. The Orioles could use a good bat at second base, where the team has produced a .228/.283/.339 batting line this season.
Though Roberts was on the 60-day DL, the team will not need to make a move to open a 40-man roster spot for him. The team has an open slot after Freddy Garcia opted out of his contract and re-signed a minor league deal recently. The team will, however, need to option someone to the minors to make room for Roberts on the active roster.
