Nady was released from his contract with the Kansas City Royals just hours prior to signing with Colorado.

The Colorado Rockies signed OF/1B Xavier Nady to a minor league deal on Sunday, reports CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman. The deal was first suggested by MLB Daily Dish's Chris Cotillo Sunday morning on Twitter.

Nady was released by the Kansas City Royals just hours prior to signing with the Rockies. He had been playing for the Royals' Triple-A affiliate where he was hitting .310/.382/.486 with 11 home runs through 70 games.

According to FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, one scout who saw Nady recently was quoted as saying the ten-year veteran "swung as well as I have seen him in a while."

Nady last appeared in the majors in 2012, splitting time between the Washington Nationals and San Francisco Giants. Overall, he posted a .569 OPS over 59 games.

Nady is expected to report to Triple-A Colorado Springs to play outfield for the Sky Sox.
