2013 MLB Draft results: RHP Jonathan Gray selected by Rockies with the No. 3 pick

Kyle Laferriere-US PRESSWIRE

The Colorado Rockies selected RHP Jonathan Gray with the No. 3 pick in the 2013 MLB Draft. Gray was 8-4 with a 3.16 ERA in 18 starts for the Sooners, with 104 strikeouts in 102 2/3 innings.

The Colorado Rockies have selected Oklahoma Sooners pitcher Jonathan Gray with the No. 3 pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft.

Gray, a junior starting pitcher for the Sooners, is considered one of the top two available players in the draft, along with Stanford Cardinal pitcher Mark Appel. Appel is generally considered the safer of the two players, while Gray has more upside.

The right-handed pitcher is 6'4" and 245 pounds, giving him the chance to be a workhorse at the major league level. Gray has a strong fastball/slider combination, and could develop into a front-of-the-rotation pitcher if he continues to develop his changeup.

Gray may not be the easiest sign, as he does have the option to return to Oklahoma for his senior season if he feels like he could gain more leverage with another dominant season. He's coming off a 10-2 year with 1.59 ERA and 138 strikeouts in 119 innings. His Sooners will be playing in the NCAA baseball super regional against LSU this week. In 2012 he posted a 3.16 ERA over 18 starts, striking out 104 hitters in 102 2/3 innings.

He reportedly tested positive for Adderall despite not having a prescription.
