The Boston Red Sox have selected left-handed pitcher Trey Ball with the No. 7 pick of the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft.
Ball is considered equally interesting as an outfield prospect or a left-handed pitcher, but will likely fill the role of pitcher -- the 6'6, 190-pound high schooler out of New Castle, Ind., already flashes a plus fastball. If he can fill out his large frame, he could be a top-of-the-rotation starter.
Ball is also a toolsy outfielder. Blessed with athleticism and frame, he could stick in center field. However, Jim Callis of Baseball America noted he "would merit a second- or third-round selection as a position player."
