The Rangers selected OF/SS Travis Demeritte with the No. 30 pick of the 2013 MLB Draft. The high school infielder possess some offensive upside, but scouts consider his plate approach unpolished.

The Texas Rangers have selected Travis Demeritte out of Winder Barrow High School (Ga.) with the No. 30 pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft.

Demeritte is listed at 6'1, 185 pounds, and played shortstop and outfield. He pitched for his high school team as well. The prep player is lean and athletic; Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com speculates that Demeritte has room in his frame to add some muscle.

The right-handed hitter is considered projectable, but is also quite raw. Demeritte possess excellent bat speed and the potential to add plus power, but John Manuel of Baseball America notes that his approach at the plate and feel for hitting need improvement.

Most scouts feel that Demeritte will end up at third base, where his arm and athleticism should make for a quality defender. Demeritte is committed to play for the South Carolina Gamecocks next season, leaving him a fall-back option if he does not come to an agreement with the Rangers.
