The San Diego Padres will get their center fielder back on Thursday as Cameron Maybin will be activated from the disabled list before the Friars open a four-game series in Denver against the Colorado Rockies, the team announced late Wednesday night. Maybin missed 46 games with a right wrist impingement.
To make room for Maybin, the Padres optioned outfielder Kyle Blanks to Triple-A Tucson. Blanks on the season is hitting .273/.362/.434 with four home runs in 36 games, and he is second on the team in on-base percentage.
Maybin got off to a slow start for San Diego earlier this season at just 3-for-33 (.091) in 10 games and injured his wrist making a catch at Dodger Stadium on April 15. Maybin in nine games with Tucson on a minor league rehab assignment hit .323/.447/.645 with three home runs, a double and six runs scored.
Maybin, 26, is in the second year of a five-year, $25 million contract extension signed in March of 2012.
