Reds, Giants to make up Cincinnati rainout in San Francisco

The game will be made up as a traditional doubleheader, and the Reds will serve as the home team for the first game.

The San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds will make up their July 4 rainout at Great American Ballpark on July 23 as part of a traditional doubleheader at AT&T Park, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.

There were few other options to make up the rainout, as the two teams only share one off-day the rest of the season. A neutral-site game at Coors Field on August 29 was considered, reports Andrew Baggarly of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. The Giants would have just finished a series against the Colorado Rockies while the Reds would be arriving to face the Rockies the next series, but it would have meant both teams playing 34 consecutive games without a day off, which requires union approval.

The two teams could have also played the game after the regular season ended if it impacted any playoff races.

The first game will start at 4:05 p.m. PT, with the second game scheduled to start 30 minutes after the final out of the first game. The Reds will serve as the home team for the first game, and will wear their home uniforms. The Giants will wear their road gray jerseys for the first game, then the two teams will switch their uniforms for the second game.
