Melancon has been lights out this season as a member of the Pirates bullpen.
Pittsburgh Pirates middle reliever Mark Melancon will be added to the National League All-Star game roster, the team announced on Sunday.
Melancon has been one of the best relievers in the NL this season. Over 45 games, he has a 0.81 ERA with an outstanding 46:4 K:BB ratio. He has not allowed an earned run since June 4, a streak of 14 scoreless appearances.
Melancon has been worth 1.6 fWAR this season, second only to teammate Jason Grilli among National League relief pitchers in 2013.
Melancon will replace teammate Jeff Locke on the roster. Locke is unable to participate due to a back injury.
In addition to Melancon, CF Andrew McCutchen, 3B Pedro Alvarez, and Grilli will represent the Pirates at the 2013 All-Star game.
