Rays injury update: Escobar could return, Myers day-to-day

J. Meric

Coming into a series with the Red Sox that could have a huge impact on the division race, the Rays received good news on two of their injured players.

Coming into one of their biggest series of the year against the first-place Red Sox Monday night, the Rays received some positive injury news, per Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune.

Escobar could return to the lineup

Shortstop Yunel Escobar could return to the Rays' lineup Monday night against the Red Sox, after not playing since he injured his right hamstring on July 14, the last day before the All-Star break. Manager Joe Maddon said that Escobar was feeling "good" and that he would make a decision closer to game time on whether to start him or not. Escobar has a triple-slash line in 2013 of .251/.312/.367, and has played excellent defense at shortstop in his first year with the Rays.

Myers day-to-day with sore wrist

Rays outfielder Wil Myers is day-to-day with a sore wrist, but should play on Monday night. Joe Maddon said that Myers is having some soreness in the finish of his swing, but that he should be in the lineup anyway. The rookie right fielder is hitting to the tune of .310./.336/.460, and has quickly joined Evan Longoria and Ben Zobrist as one of the team's better hitters.
