The rookie is joined on the ballot by Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, Washington Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond, San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence and Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman.
Puig has taken MLB by storm since joining the Dodgers on June 3, and he ended Saturday hitting .407/.435/.683 in 131 plate appearances. Puig has collected 50 hits and eight home runs in just 31 games.
The other four candidates all have strong cases for winning the fan vote. Gonzalez has been a key part of the Dodgers' offense for the entire season, hitting .296/.349/.485 with 13 home runs and 53 RBI. Freeman also owns strong numbers at first, hitting .307/.384/.466 with nine homers and 56 RBI.
Desmond plays a difficult defensive position for the Nationals while contributing at a similar level offensively, hitting .284/.326/.506 with 15 homers and 49 RBI. Pence has also been above-average at the plate while providing value defensively, hitting .269/.314/.462 with 13 homers and 43 RBI.
