Yu Darvish, who opened the 2013 season by pitching a near no-hitter against the Houston Astros is doing it again today in his team's final game of the season against their intra-state rivals.
Despite the bizarre decision by home-plate umpire Ron Kulpa to eject Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski for arguing a pitch that Kulpa failed to call a strike, Darvish has been firmly in control, striking out 13 and twice striking out the side. His one walk came after the debatable call by Kulpa -- the non-strike brought the count full, Darvish missed with the next pitch, and Pierzynski turned to say something that must have been something like, "See? You just thwarted history!" He was replaced by catcher Geovany Soto.
