Tiger Woods made birdie on three straight holes to go to 3-under through seven at The Barclays on Thursday. Then bad weather set in, suspending play for nearly four hours until it could resume at approximately 4:15 p.m. ET. Woods went on to hit just one birdie over his next 11 holes to finish with a 4-under par 67 for the day, three strokes behind current leader Kevin Stadler.
Stadler was also bogey free, but hit seven birdies on the day, including five on the front nine alone. Stadler made par on his final five holes of the day, then sat back and watched as Camilo Villegas relinquished the lead. Villegas led at 8-under overall heading into No. 14, but bogeyed two straight holes to drop back into second-place tie with Ryan Palmer and Henrik Stenson at 6-under.
Jason Day could have joined the trio in second place if not for a bogey on No. 9, his last hole of the day. Then again, a lucky bounce kept his drive on No. 13 from going into heavy grass, setting up a 2-iron shot to the green and a 34-foot putt that he sank for eagle. Day is tied with Matt Kuchar at 5-under.
Rory McIlroy had an eventful day. He hit four birdies and an eagle yet still finished at even par thanks to double bogeys on No. 5, No. 9 and No. 15.
