The Rays will send a player to be named later or cash for DeJesus. Tampa Bay will make a corresponding roster move Friday afternoon, according to Topkin, so DeJesus is expected to be with the team Friday night.
DeJesus is headed for his third team this week. The Nationals acquired the Cubs outfielder Monday for a player to be named later, but Washington placed the outfielder back on revocable waivers. Tampa Bay placed a claim on DeJesus, which led to the trade.
The outfielder appeared in three games for the Nationals, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout. DeJesus, a career .279 hitter, is batting .247/.327/.397 in 322 plate appearances. The left-handed hitter should provide Tampa Bay with depth off the bench, as he can play all three outfield positions.
DeJesus is due around $1 million for the remainder of the season. The Rays hold a $6.5 million club option for the outfielder in 2014, with a $1.5 million buyout.
