Wise, 35, hasn't played since May 29, when he suffered a strained right hamstring and landed on the 15-day disabled list. Through the first two months of the season, Wise hit .234/.258/.328 in 66 plate appearances for the last-place White Sox, while playing above-average outfield defense, mostly in center field. In 11 big-league seasons, Wise is a career .228/.264/.381 hitter who is perhaps best-known for the catch he made to rob the Rays' Gabe Kapler of a home run and preserve a perfect game for Mark Buehrle on July 23, 2009.
The 40-67 White Sox have the worst offense in the American League, combining for an 82 OPS+. The team's outfielders have produced at a better clip than most of the other positions on the diamond for the White Sox, but as a whole, the unit is below average compared to the rest of the league.
