Felix Hernandez injury: Mariners star still sidelined by oblique strain

King Felix's return to the mound continues to be pushed back while he deals with the aftereffects of an oblique injury.

Seattle Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez will not make his next start while continuing to nurse an oblique injury, the team told the Associated Press (via ESPN).

Hernandez felt fine while throwing a bullpen session on Monday, according to Mariners pitching coach Carl Willis, but the 27-year-old right-hander was "a little erratic," leaving the team to bump him back at least until the weekend. Hisashi Iwakuma will start on Wednesday, followed by James Paxton and Erasmo Ramirez. Hernandez is expected to participate in a bullpen session on Thursday.

Hernandez, a former Cy Young winner and four-time All-Star, hasn't pitched since Sept. 2. He is 12-9 with a 3.01 ERA in 194⅓ innings this season. His 9.3 strikeouts and 1.9 walks per nine innings are both career bests.
